Introduction
Operation Smile established a presence in China and set up Hong Kong office in 1991. In 2015, it opened its current headquarters in Kunming, China’s Yunnan Province.
Operation Smile was found in 1982 and headquarter based in Virginia, U.S.A. Operation Smile is one of the world’s oldest and largest volunteer-based organizations and is also one of the world’s largest surgical organizations. As an international charity organization with global resources, advanced operational philosophy and professional experience, Operation Smile is committed to providing professional, long-term, sustainable surgical procedures for children in low- and middle-income countries.
In China, Operation Smile is committed to providing free medical care for those suffering from cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities. To date, Operation Smile has invested over $30 million USD in China and has helped over 30,000 Chinese children and has conducted surgical programs at more than 150 different hospital locations. As a volunteer based charity organization, Operation Smile has a total of nearly 600 medical volunteers in China.
After establishing the Operation Smile Special Fund of CCAFC in July 2015, Operation Smile now has the capability to contract with Chinese hospitals outside of Yunnan Province.
